Internal vs Agency Recruitment and Taking the Blinkers Off
I didn’t think I’d miss agency recruitment until I returned. And I remember all over again why I enjoy it. Don’t get me wrong, it’s week 2, so I’ve only just dipped my feet back in, but the conversations with clients about their business, growth, innovation and talent has got my blood pumping. And then the candidate side – sharing conversations with job seekers who disclose their career aspirations. I feel honoured to play my part connecting good people.
And then today, I had coffee with a contact I hadn’t seen since in over a year ago; I was reminded of how valuable quality networks are and how broad mine are. I find it so interesting getting under the hood with so many organisations and then bolt on as a recruitment partner. At the end of the day, I’m a connector.
What is sitting top of mind, having spoken to a few employers already, is the need for an open minded approach to building progressive teams. We’re taking our blinkers off when it comes to innovation and tech; the emergence of AI and machine learning is building momentum fast. Let’s think the same way with talent; out-sourcing, contractors, off-shoring, engaging international talent, using AI in HR, and building bolt-on talent partnerships. Let’s move away from how things have always been done, to thinking smarter. It's starting with ZEIL and their evolution of traditional job boards. Check them out if you haven’t already.
And then the market. I’ve just come from 12 months working in a tech start up, I experienced the journey first-hand. I can foresee the gaps in technology and the emerging demand for data scientists, information security, cyber security jobs and developers is going to be big in the next 2-5 years. As we expect the job landscape is going to change, LinkedIn says 85% of jobs that will exist in 2030 haven’t been invented yet. Existing degrees probably won’t completely satisfy these jobs, so recruiting with in-demand soft skills is important. The fastest growing skills since Nov 2022 are flexibility +158%, integrity +120%, emotional intelligence +118% and self-management +83%.
Let’s think big NZ, take the blinkers off and find you the best talent for your business now and in the future.
