Senior Fabricator (Stainless Steel)

Job description

We’re currently recruiting for experienced Senior Stainless Fabricators to join a highly respected New Zealand engineering business based in Hamilton.

This company has built an outstanding reputation for delivering high-quality engineered solutions across sectors including food processing, transport, infrastructure and specialised custom projects. They’re known for their workmanship, strong team culture and investment in modern equipment and systems. The workshop environment is clean, professional and busy, with a strong pipeline of work ahead.

This is not a repetitive production-line role. The work is varied and technically interesting, with projects ranging from stainless vessels and pipework through to ducting, transitions and bespoke fabrication work completed to very high standards.

The successful person will play a key role on the workshop floor, taking ownership of jobs from start through to completion. You’ll work closely with Project Engineers and the wider trades team to ensure projects are delivered on time, safely and to an exceptional standard. There is also an opportunity to provide guidance and mentoring to junior fabricators and apprentices coming through the business.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Fabrication of stainless-steel vessels, pipe runs, ducting and custom components
  • TIG welding light gauge stainless including sanitary welds and back purging
  • Reading and interpreting CAD and workshop drawings
  • Leading jobs on the floor and helping coordinate workflow
  • Supporting and mentoring junior staff where needed
  • Maintaining high-quality finishes and strong health and safety standards
What we’re looking for:
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in light gauge stainless fabrication
  • Strong TIG welding capability is essential
  • Experience working to food-grade or hygienic standards highly regarded
  • Trade qualification in fabrication or significant industry experience
  • Experience working with 304 and 316 stainless steel
  • NZS 4703, NZS 4711 or ASME IX tickets are advantageous
  • Positive attitude, good communication and a strong work ethic
This role would suit someone who takes genuine pride in their workmanship and enjoys being part of a collaborative, down-to-earth team that values quality over shortcuts. In return, you’ll be joining a stable and growing business with excellent long-term opportunities and a strong reputation within the industry.

Applicants must have the right to live and work in New Zealand.
