Achieve Your Career #Goals

Goals

The start of a new year is as good time as any to set goals that you want to work towards in order to accomplish great triumphs and achievements. Benjamin Franklin said, “If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail!” – As cliché as this is, setting goals is important as they give you a sense of direction and fuel your ambition to succeed.

However before you can jump straight into putting pen to paper you should reflect on your current circumstances and set realistic and attainable goals that will deliver personal satisfaction and growth in your career – keyword is realistic. Embrace goal setting and don’t perceive it as burden or put it in the too hard basket. Use it as ammunition to fuel your desire and inspire you to work towards where you want to be in your career. For some that is getting a promotion, for others developing new skills and knowledge or maybe jumping ship and experiencing a completely new industry.

It’s no secret that our career is a significant part of our life and the amount of time and devotion you spend carefully establishing clear and concise career goals will help you tick off or Instagram those positive achievements.

Kinetic are here to help you every step along the way, so here’s some tips from us to you on just how to make that happen.

  1. Change your perspective

Understand your part in the bigger picture of your workplace and figure out what principals you need to follow to ensure your goals turn into a reality and you have a sense of direction to follow. It’s not just about the words in your job description but about discovering your own purpose and establishing a clear direction on where you see yourself heading and what you can do to get to where you want to be.

  1. Bring it back to basics

It’s an oldie but a goodie and this classic technique works – make your goals SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Time-based). The more clarity you have on your goals, the more likely you are to achieve them. Set goals based on your capabilities and ensure you are working towards those milestones that you set your mind too; good things take time.

  1. Don’t let your guard down

Keep your mind focused and see yourself exactly where you want to be in your career; promotion, development, more responsibilities, the list is endless. First goals happen in your head, then they happen on paper and finally they happen in reality. So make sure to write everything down on paper, type them up, put them into your Gmail calendar etc. By having them somewhere you can see them will keep you motivated and on track. Keep reminding yourself that what you do today must contribute to the bigger picture. Career growth doesn’t just happen by itself, so challenge your own potential and get out of your comfort zone.

  1. An apple a day… it’s all about balance

A healthy work life balance is very important. Yes you have to work hard to achieve your career goals but it’s equally as important to look after your wellbeing. Regularly re-charge and accept that you can’t control everything. Make sure you find happiness in what you are doing and do it with a smile on your face.

Setting goals doesn’t have to be a daunting exercise with targets that seem impossible to reach. Setting goals is about creating milestones to work towards the bigger picture of where you eventually desire to be. Rome wasn’t built in a day and your career triumphs won’t happen overnight. Be patient, persistent and learn to accept that at some point throughout your goal reaching journey you will experience downfalls but this is something that should inspire and challenge you to keep going.

Setting goals for your career is very positive and a great mental exercise. Goals are never merely an end result and they should be continually worked on until you reach your own level of satisfaction and those images that you were once hash-tagging #goals to, is now your reality.
