April Update

Director's Update

With offices over the four main centres, we are seeing temp demands skyrocketing with the need for long term speciality resource. This need has come from internal workloads increasing and from this 20% of these temps in the last six months have gone on to become permanent employees.

With the candidate market being so incredibly tight, Kinetic has taken on additional resource to solely focus on sourcing top candidates. This internal specialist will find those individuals who are not necessarily looking but with the right opportunity will move for the right role. Due to this, the turn around time for consultants shortlisting permanent roles for clients has dropped considerably.

Due to a larger number clients continuing to utilise us nationally we have seen a big increase of work coming from the Hamilton region. Kinetic wishes to ensure that we are focusing on the local market and supplying a top recruitment service, while pulling on our business expertise nationally. The Kinetic office opens in Hamilton May 1, 2018 and has hired an experienced and local consultant.

Hard to fill industries

SEEK has recently released data that reveals how candidate availability changed across New Zealand industries in 2017 compared to the previous 12 months. The below graph demonstrates which industries are attracting more candidates. Those industries "easing" are seeing more applicants, as opposed to those "tightening", which are evidently seeing less.

An interesting summary compared to April 2017, which saw a slip in jobs advertised in industries such as Administration and Office Support, an 8% decline. Accounting also declined by 9%. It's great to see both the job market booming and a candidate increase nationally year on year.

Where to from here?

Undoubtedly, the employment market is looking optimistic. With the change in workplace legislation well and truly in effect, we have seen the increase in minimum wage as of 1st April.

It is apparent that this is giving candidates more assurance within the job market - senior economist Michael Gordon recently spoke to National Business Review in regard to this, explaining that perceptions of earnings growth have moved upward in comparison to December, and that they are at their highest in the last three years.

With this in mind, and the modification of trial periods to be seen within the near future, we are intrigued to see the rise in candidate satisfaction as the year progresses.
