End of Year Round Up

CEO's Update

2018 has gone incredibly quickly. It's has definitely been a variable year with regards to recruitment, and the candidate market has been tough.

Some sectors of the market have shown strong signs of growth but I would say the majority have sat pretty steady. I’m not going to get political, but I am hoping in 2019 the Labour led Government continues to build a greater understanding and makes decisions that are aligned with businesses.

My team, as always, rode the waves of 2018 and come out well. We are all ready for a break and hopefully some sun.

It is important to recognise the people that Kinetic has worked alongside this year. We sincerely appreciate the loyalty and partnership that our clients show us. To our great temps of Kinetic, and the hundreds of people we have placed in new permanent roles nationally, we thank you for being part of the Kinetic team.

Next year we have new services that will be in place to make the recruitment process even more streamlined for clients and where we can add far better value to you all. It is important to evolve and keep looking at better ways to make our clients' experience easy, so if you have anything you wish to suggest, we are always open to your feedback.

I personally wish you a restful break and hope you get to switch those phones off or at least to silent. I sincerely thank you for working with my great team.

Consultant's Say

Auckland

What a busy year we have had. Working with specific client briefs and ensuring the best talent is located, we have broadened our search skills and tools to deliver and provide expected outcomes. This has meant solid yet short "on brief" shortlists and close consulting with clients to ensure best fit. As we are working in the market daily, the consultative approach to how we practice has been crucial to clients ensuring their expectations remain in check. We look forward to being of continued support in the new year.
- Tara Fisher, Principal Consultant

Goodbye 2018 and hello 2019! What an interesting year it has been. Working within a candidate tight market and the lowest employment rate nationally has definitely brought a creative approach to our recruitment strategy to ensure we find the perfect candidate for our clients. It has been a pleasure working and partnering with some extraordinary companies and I can't wait to continue this in the New Year. I hope you all have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
- Stacey Bollond, Recruitment Consultant

2019...There are many advances to come, with an increasing uptake of clients allowing us to use videos to promote their brand when recruiting to block Chain technology being used to stop CV cheaters. Our challenge is to not only keep abreast but be leaders in securing you the best talent available, a challenge we love! I wish you a very Merry Christmas and thank you for your support.
- Sue Brash, Senior Consultant

2018 has been such an interesting year.  We have faced an extremely testing market, but regardless of the challenges we face, it is always a fun ride here at Kinetic. I particularly enjoyed taking a consultative approach with my clients, working together to tackle the difficulties we have faced and getting top quality candidates into the next step in their career journey. I am really looking forward to what the next year will bring! Thank you for your continued support, have a great break, see you in 2019!

What a year! There have been massive ups and downs with numbers of jobs advertised and unemployment rates across NZ, which has made for a really different market to work in compared to previous years. No matter what the market is doing, there is no better feeling than working alongside a business to successfully find them their perfect new employee and helping to find a candidate their new dream job. I cannot wait to see what 2019 will bring and look forward to working with you all again. Have a great Christmas and break.
- Katy Calder, Senior Consultant

The end to a huge year -  am sure you are looking forward to a break across Christmas as much as I am! 2018 for me, has been quite a year.  Working closely with valued clients and getting to know your business and your style has been extremely rewarding. The market is ever changing, but the one thing that stays the same is the need for passionate and genuine people, and I can honestly say I have met some truly incredible people this year, and and it has been a privilege working with you all.  Wishing you all a safe and wonderful Christmas.
- Liz Beckett, Senior Recruitment Consultant

Already I have met with such energetic, passionate and seriously talented candidates who are ready and excited to jump into a new and exciting challenge in the new year. 2019 is going to be a great one and I am looking forward to seeing what the ever changing and fast paced world of recruitment brings in the new year! I sincerely look forward to working with you all. Happy Holidays!

Hamilton/BOP

Hundreds of new jobs are expected in Tauranga as two major shopping developments near completion. The new jobs created in the retail and food and beverage industries will provide fantastic employment opportunities for local people and those looking to move to the area.
- Alicia Gordon, Recruitment Consultant

Tauranga has been very busy with construction and house building. There are plenty of exciting times ahead for the region with the Waikato University Campus nearing completion. Due to this and tourism season starting the BOP won't be lazing on the beach anytime soon. It's been a good, steady year and 2019 is going to be crazy busy! I can't wait.

I returned from mat leave mid year, the market had definitely flattened out since 2017. Since then we've had good growth, particularly in our temp business. Permanent recruitment is steady, there are pockets of clients who can't find staff fast enough and then others who are holding steady.

Commentary in the region is talent is hard to find. My view is there is impressive talent in our region, it's a case of identifying smart people with the right soft skills who can add value. I've seen smart businesses take on these people with great success this year.

The future of the workforce is changing. Flexible working, part-time roles, contracting, secondments are all on the rise. Businesses who are considering workforce planning are leading the pack souring top talent. Thanks to all our clients and candidates who've made this year great. We look forward to another cracker next year. I'll be ready to go after some sun and wine.

Wellington

2018 kick started my Recruitment career. What an industry!

I have seen a huge rise in the importance of getting the right person for the company - people appreciating people. The need for Labourers and Hospitality staff in Wellington has vastly increased in both temporary and permanent positions. There has been a change in thinking and clients are open to helping candidates gain their working visa. I'm looking forward to working with clients and candidates in 2019.

Christchurch

The Christchurch market has been similar to the Bay of Plenty region for 2018. There has been ample growth in the Construction and Engineering industry, and shows no sign of slowing down leading in to the New Year.

We have certainly worked in a candidate tight market this year, which in turn has initiated a steady increase in salary packages in order to solidify top talent being recruited. Behind the scenes, we have been working towards moving into a bright new office early in 2019, an exciting venture for our team.

Tis the Season!

The Kinetic team gathered together for a wonderful Christmas celebration over on Waiheke at Cable Bay Vineyards!

Having the teams from each region together made for a fantastic day. We were treated to a delicious lunch, bubbles and plenty of laughs. A big thank you to our Operations Assistant, Jess Mclaren, for organising such a great day.

Swivel

Swivel Careers has seen substantial growth in 2018, across both our Swivel for Schools and Swivel for Students programmes. We are currently 85% booked for 2019, an exciting year ahead!

The press this year has had education in the spotlight and we believe careers in schools is a changing space. More often than not a traditional model is stretched, and the work required to prepare students for employment is much more complex than before. It is essential students learn more about new disciplines within industries, are informed of new industry and market trends and are well prepared with modern career resources to transition them into making well informed choices and knowing themselves well.

A major business highlight and milestone for Swivel Careers in 2018 was engaging our Swivel for Schools services in Asia.  Working with students from all over the globe, we are bringing information from one side of the world to another.

Our Year 13 programme made a significant impact in the lives of young students this year, preparing for their futures beyond school. Each of them learning that now is the time to open up your Social Media profile and use it as a marketing tool, what effect their digital footprint has on their employability for their entire career and being interviewed by actual recruiters – a rare experience!

In 2019 Swivel Careers has four key workshops that help students understand their own sense of purpose and meaning as a person. We are making Self Awareness and Empowerment acceptable in this world, our strategy is to work in a preventative manner with students, bringing it out in the open.
