Health And Safety In The Workplace

Safety

Workplace health and safety is a very important yet often a bland and unappealing topic that most of us tend to avoid. Unlike engaging topics such as personal development, money or success that by nature inspires positive thoughts, health and safety is equally important and must be addressed, especially since 2016 is the year of change.

There seems to be a distant echo in the air reminding us that the new Health and Safety at Work Act comes into force on 4th April and it will radically alter the circumstances we work in. Is this a scary thing? Will it change the way we operate? We think not! Kinetic believe it gives us the opportunity to redefine the role of workplace health and safety as the professionals we are. Regardless of the new Health and Safety Act, the principles surrounding your wellbeing at work remain consistent and its important to ensure we work together to put practice into action.

As a Kinetic temp, contract or permanent member of staff, always be aware of your surroundings and follow the appropriate steps to ensure your health and safety is maintained at all times. Whether out on a job, in an office or driving to a site, accidents can occur and Kinetic are continually looking for ways to incorporate healthy practices to protect you.

However we can’t do it alone so here are a few of your responsibilities when it comes to health & safety in the workplace.

  • Take reasonable steps and care to protect your own health and safety and that of those around you. Consider who might be affected by your actions at work.
  • Comply with all work safety laws, practices, policies and procedures. If you are instructed to do something or not to touch something, it is for your own benefit and those rules should be followed. If you are unsure ask questions – don’t be afraid when it comes to your safety and wellbeing.
  • Report any hazards, incidents or injuries directly to your site manager or us at Kinetic. We care about your health and safety and if something happens that might affect your ability to work, such as suffering an injury please let us know.
  • Don’t be naïve and always be aware of your surroundings. Yes although office work may not be as risky as a construction site, it still holds some less obvious hazards. Even the administrative employees may suffer severe injuries that could have been prevented with a little attention and care.

Kinetic are always committed to providing and maintaining a safe and healthy working environment for all of those who engage with us. If you have any questions surrounding your safety at work, please contact us or to find out more about how the Health & Safety Act 2016 will affect you visit here:http://www.business.govt.nz/worksafe/hswa.
