Immigration in the news

The new immigration figures are hot off the press and are showing the pattern of migration between New Zealand and Australia has taken a very interesting turn.
Australia has long been a go-to place for Kiwis looking abroad for opportunities, however it seems to be losing its lustre. Kiwis have been hopping the ditch each month by the thousands, but last month saw only 200 make the trip, which is the lowest number ever. With just 11,000 people making the move this past year, it doesn’t take an expert to determine that this is a really big change and the prospect of greener pastures is slowing down.
So now more than ever, Kiwis are flocking home to take advantage of the upturn in the New Zealand job market and settle in their native land. This is a great result for New Zealand as we can retain local talent and grow stronger as a country. Australia recently announced their federal budget which has resulted in the return of Kiwis. We welcome them back into our hardworking and proud workforce.
Over 70,000 people migrated to New Zealand last year and this caused ports to bulge with the influx which also affected the housing shortage and health care system. However for a growing job market, this will make it easier to source and retain great people with the right skills for the right jobs. Good times are ahead for New Zealand!
