Kinetic Newsletter

Spring is finally upon us and now that the long dark nights are coming to an end we can enjoy the fresh air and embrace a sense of optimism looking forward to the rest of the year. After the winter months this is the time of year to put our best foot forward and open up to the possibility of new experiences and opportunities; Auckland is currently booming along with the rest of the country.
Reflecting on our year so far we have experienced an increased demand for temporary and contract work, with Auckland showing the biggest increase, however Wellington and Tauranga are not far behind. With temporary work being the gateway to permanent employment, Kinetic has converted more temp to perm roles than at any other time this year. This is a fantastic opportunity and huge advantage for candidates who have proven themselves and as a result have been offered a permanent role. The New Zealand economy is growing at the fastest pace in 10 years and we have experienced strong employment growth over the past year.
Employment is on the rise and things are looking better than this time last year with new roles up 1.3 per cent in comparison to 2014 (Seek, 2015). We feel at Kinetic, from speaking with our clients and reviewing other indicators, that the employment market will continue to grow and remain strong this year. We are optimistic about the future and are looking forward to summer with many more exciting opportunities for both our candidates and clients.
Success is not a static thing and cannot be viewed in isolation, it is an ongoing journey based on persistently looking ahead and embracing the changing world around us… food for thought moving towards the end of the year to reflect on whatever your goals in life or business may be.

The Ageing Population
In a world where 65 is the new 55, mature workers are remaining in the workforce longer than ever before and moving into retirement has been significantly pushed back. New Zealand is experiencing increasing life expectancies as people are not just living longer but they are healthier, fitter and more active than ever before.
The face of ageing is changing, but so is the attraction of employing mature workers. Organisations are drawn to working with seniors for a variety of reasons and are attracted to the experience, knowledge and life skills they offer. The population aged 65 years and over has increased from 11 per cent of the total population in 1991 to 13 per cent in 2009. It is expected to reach 21 per cent by 2031 (Ministry Of Social Development, 2015).
As a result organisations are experiencing the effects of an ageing workforce and are looking to mid-to-late-career workers aged 45years and over to supplement them with the skills and knowledge that they need to succeed.

Kiwi’s Returning Home
New Zealanders have traditionally been attracted to the idea of living and working overseas as higher wages and more job opportunities seem very appealing. However the tables seem to be turning and significant growth in the New Zealand market and declining unemployment rates show New Zealand is positively booming.
Statistics New Zealand have realised their market data showing that for the first time since 1991 there were more Australians moving to New Zealand to live than vice versa. For the third month in a row, the historical trend of New Zealanders heading to Australia chasing higher wages and conditions has been reversed. Kiwis living abroad are starting to realise that the overseas dream is not so perfect and the grass may in fact be greener here.
Australian arrivals rose 9.2 per cent to 24,100 with two-thirds being New Zealanders returning home (3 News, 2015). Latest figures from Statistics NZ show in the last 12 months about 117,000 people moved to New Zealand, while 57,500 departed. Of those arriving, 24,300 were from Australia, with about two-thirds of those being Kiwis coming back home (3 News, 2015). With the upswing of work and employment opportunities, employers are growing their teams to accommodate increased demand and are hunting for qualified and well skilled Kiwis wanting to return home; welcoming them with open arms.
Bay of Plenty has experienced the biggest salary increase of almost 7 percent over the last year and the population in Tauranga is thriving and there are so many work opportunities for skilled professionals looking to settle (Seek, 2015). Kiwis returning home provide a mixture of knowledge and experience supplemented with global business acumen and competition for talent is heating up.
