- Be part of the SLT, reporting to the CEO, and responsible for your team of eight Health & Safety staff (primarily Advisors)
TASKS
- Lead the development, implementation, and ongoing review of health and safety policies, plans, and procedures to ensure compliance with legislation and industry standards, including the recently gained ISO 45001 certification
- Maintain awareness and oversight of maintenance contracts, ensuring safety requirements are integrated and met
- Conduct and oversee regular health and safety audits, inspections, and investigations to identify concerns and implement corrective actions
- Support regional managers and operational teams in maintaining safety standards across all sites, assisting with compliance and risk management
- Promote a proactive safety culture by facilitating incident investigations, root cause analysis, and sharing learnings to prevent recurrence
- Coach and mentor your staff re safety, inductions, and awareness programs for staff, trades, and subcontractors to ensure understanding and adherence
- Manage the company’s safety committees, ensuring active participation and continuous improvement initiatives
- Monitor safety metrics and trends, providing insightful reports to senior leadership colleagues to inform decision-making
- Collaborate with external stakeholders such as WorkSafe, ACC, community organizations, and industry bodies, fostering strong relationships and ensuring compliance
- Advocate for environmental sustainability, ensuring operational practices align with environmental policies and improve sustainability performance
- Act as a visible safety leader within the organization, modelling best practices and encouraging open communication about safety and wellbeing
YOU
- Will have worked at the level of a Health & Safety Manager for a minimum of 4 years within a maintenance, construction, or industrial environment
- Have a passion for H & S, environmental issues and compliance
- Someone who sees conflicts as opportunities, who reads situations quickly and is good at focused listening, providing staff with positive feedback and the tools and support they need
- Excellent communication skills, capable of reporting to the board, senior leadership, clients, and external stakeholders with clarity and professionalism
- A Tertiary qualification in Health and Safety management or environmental science is a plus
- Thorough knowledge of the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015, Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act, and Resource Management Act
- Have a Full Drivers Licence
- Full NZ legal work rights as this is a permanent role
OFFER
- A negotiable salary range $140-170,000 depending on the length of your experience as a Health & Safety Manager and familiarity with any of the Construction, Maintenance, Trades or Property Repair sectors
- Company Vehicle (a SUV - not branded)
- Five weeks annual leave
- Flexible hours eg 7am to 4pm, to 8am to 5pm with an hour for lunch (no WFH – given Auckland field visits and brief monthly trips to Whangarei & flight to Wellington)
