Medical Laboratory Technician

Our team is committed to excellence in conducting clinical trials, and we are currently seeking a skilled and experienced Medical Laboratory Technician to join our dynamic team.
As the Medical Laboratory Technician, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the efficiency, compliance, and quality of our laboratory operations. This is a hands-on role and would suit someone who wants to retain their practical medical laboratory skills while developing or growing leadership and laboratory management experience.
Day to day responsibilities will include:
- Staff Optimization: Ensure optimal staffing levels within the laboratory to support operational needs.
- Equipment Management: Ensure that all laboratory equipment is maintained and fit for purpose, staying informed about technological advances to advise on future-proofing strategies.
- Workflow Optimization: Optimize laboratory layout and workflow to maximize efficiency in sample processing.
- Compliance Monitoring: Monitor staff compliance with Good Laboratory Practices and clinical trial guidelines.
- Freezer Maintenance: Ensure timely maintenance and defrosting of freezers, along with safe storage of samples. Manage the 24/ 7 on-call roster for fridges and freezers.
- Subject Matter Expertise: Provide expertise on laboratory feasibility for new studies and support the identification of third-party vendors.
- Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs): Develop, implement, and maintain SOPs to ensure adherence to quality standards.
- Training and Education: Develop and implement training programs for laboratory staff and ensure ongoing education on best practices.
- Partner Site Support: Lead the set-up of laboratory services at partner sites and provide ongoing liaison and troubleshooting support.
- Documentation and Compliance: Ensure accurate completion of documentation related to sample processing, equipment maintenance, and shipment.
- Health and Safety: Ensure compliance with health and safety guidelines and infection control practices.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science.
- Registered Medical Laboratory Technician in New Zealand.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Medical Laboratory Technician.
- Experience processing PBMC samples is desired.
- Experience working in a multicultural environment and with clinical trials preferred.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks.
